But it is even more inconvenient if the missing teeth are not replaced properly.

It's no coincidence that people are increasingly interested in implant dentures, as this tried and tested method is the most effective way to get back the original teeth.

Although dental implantation is a discipline that has been around for decades, many people in our country are still unaware of it. Therefore, with the help of Dr. Márta Fülöp Papp, dentist and implantologist, we have collected the most important information about the possibilities of dental implantation and how such an implantation is carried out.

If you already know that you need dental implants, Naturadent Dentistry in Budapest, a pioneer in Hungary, provides the highest quality for its patients.

Dental prosthesis with implants? These are the types to choose from!

Dental implants can now be differentiated in terms of their types and materials. In a previous article (Types of dental implants), we have already described the different types in more detail, so we will now just list them:

Dental implants by type

Standard and mini implants: they can be used to replace a single tooth on their own, but for prostheses or larger bridges, several can be placed at the same time, for example to form the basis of an All-on-4 dental implant.

One-piece and two-piece implants: one-piece implants lack an intermediate element and can be created in one procedure, while two-piece implants have an intermediate element separating the artificial root and crown.

Dental implants by material

Titanium or titanium alloy: the most common and durable solution, which rarely causes allergies.

Zirconia: solid ceramic solution, very fragile material, but also durable, fast curing and no problem to remove later.

It is important to emphasise that the choice of the right implant is always made together with a qualified implantologist who, after an examination, will recommend the most suitable type for the patient's needs and anatomical characteristics.

How a tooth replacement with implants works

When it comes to tooth restoration with dental implants, it's very important to note that it is a time-consuming process. Therefore, we cannot talk about immediate tooth restoration or restorations that can be made and loaded within days, because each stage of work has its own healing time.

To make this more transparent, we have outlined below how implant dentures work in practice.

All dental implantations require preparation

The first and most important thing to know about dental implants is that they require very thorough preparation. The first step is always the assessment and consultation, during which the implantologist will thoroughly examine the oral cavity.

Problems may already arise at this stage that require intervention, as implantation cannot be carried out if oral hygiene is not good, or if there are serious gum problems.

However, if the implantologist finds everything to be in order, the treatment planning can begin. For this, dental X-rays and a CT scan are always required to reveal the jawbone structure.

This is because implants can only be fixed in a healthy and sufficiently strong jaw, and if a bone deficiency is detected, the implantation starts with bone replacement.

Pre-prosthetic consultation at Naturadent

Placement of a dental implant screw

If there is no need to replace the missing bone, or if this can be done during the implant procedure, or if the procedure has already been done and healed, one of the most important chapters to be able to perform a tooth replacement with implants is.

The implant screw must be inserted into the sufficiently strong jawbone. After local anaesthesia, the gum is opened and the screw is placed in the jaw. The implant is placed in this so-called bone socket.

Once the implantologist has set the screw, the implant is sealed and the incision in the gum is sutured.

Preparing the crown part of the implant

As soon as the implant screw has healed, the crown part can be shaped. Ossification can be partially checked with a simple X-ray, which at NaturaDent is complemented by the use of an implant ossification measuring device, Ostell, which is taken at the time of implant release or 3D scanning, i.e. digital impression, for the formation of the crown part.

If the implant is a two-piece implant, the final implant head can be placed in its place to secure the visible restoration. In order to achieve the best possible result, a digital impression or precision sampling is taken so that the dental technicians can design the best fitting restoration for the patient, in relation to the other teeth, gums and oral cavity.

This can be a single crown, a larger or smaller bridge, or even a removable replacement, as implants can now be used to fix prostheses.

Once the restoration is ready, the implantologist will try it in place and fix it if it is suitable, otherwise rework is needed.

Fine-tuning and aftercare of the crown part of the implant

Although implant dentures are now a well-established technical procedure, even with the greatest care, it may still be necessary to fine-tune the restoration after it has been placed.

Implantologists have the right tools to do this, giving the patient the opportunity to make the restoration feel as much like their own as possible, and to maximise not only aesthetics but also functionality.

Implants usually do not require follow-up treatment, but check-ups are still necessary every 3-6 months to monitor the patient's oral hygiene and detect any inflammation early.

These are manageable problems, but it is very important to recognise them as soon as possible to avoid implant rejection.

Dental Implant Restoration: Proper Oral Hygiene is the Key to Longevity!

One of the biggest misconceptions people have is that if you have a tooth replacement with implants, you will no longer have to brush your teeth because your teeth will not be damaged.

But in reality, implants also need regular care and proper oral hygiene. Failure to do so can lead to gingivitis, which is not only painful but, if it persists, can develop into uncomfortable inflammation of the tissue around the implant.

And gum atrophy can move not only the living teeth out of place, but of course also the implants.

Therefore, it is important to ensure proper oral hygiene in the case of dental implants, as follows:

Care of fixed dentures

When it comes to major restorations or fixing crowns and bridges to implants, it is very important to clean them in the same way as live teeth. This is based on thoroughly brushing the entire set of teeth at least twice a day with a medium-bristled toothbrush.

Whether it is a live tooth or a natural tooth replacement, brushing and flossing are recommended in addition to brushing to ensure proper cleaning of the interdental space.

Care of removable dentures

Removable dentures also require significant attention from a dental hygiene perspective. In this case, it is recommended to ensure their cleanliness with toothpaste and a denture brush after every meal, or at least three times a day.

It is also essential that after the implant is removed, the implant itself and the entire gum should be brushed with a medium-bristled toothbrush and toothpaste. It is also recommended to ensure the hygiene of the removable prosthesis at least twice a week by using a tooth-cleaning tablet.

How much does a tooth replacement with implants cost?

Dental implant prices are influenced by a number of factors. The most important of these are:

What prior dental procedures are needed?

Do I need bone grafting for implantation?

How many implants are needed?

What type of implant can achieve the patient's vision?

What material would the patient like a crown or bridge made of?

Dental implant restorations are among the most significant dental procedures, which is of course reflected in the pricing. If you want to know the specific costs: dental implant prices at NaturaDent.

Dental prosthesis with implants? These are the most common questions!

How long is the recovery?

How quickly a tooth replacement with implants heals depends on the procedures performed, but also on the patient's health and age. Specifically, implants usually fully heal and load within 3-5 months.

However, this interval may be extended if, for example, bone replacement was needed or if there were complications during the procedure. However, a recovery time of 3-5 months is common for most patients.

Is the procedure painful?

In modern dentistry, advanced local anaesthetics are now available that can make the implant placement and all the procedures associated with it completely painless.

After implantation, you may experience some minor pain during the first few days of the healing phase, but this can usually be effectively managed with over-the-counter painkillers.

Why is tooth replacement with implants so expensive?

On the one hand, it is one of the most important dental procedures today, for which only premium quality materials can be used to achieve the right result.

On the other hand, dental implants are currently the most durable alternative when it comes to tooth replacement, which can restore not only the natural appearance of teeth, but also their function.

Is the implant really permanent?

Experience has shown that with the right quality dental implants, a tooth replacement can last for decades. Of course, this also requires that the patient takes care of proper cleaning of the restoration, as well as maintaining general oral hygiene and visiting the dentist every six months.

In numbers, a quality dental implant can last up to 50-60 years.

How many implants will keep an upper denture in place?

This can vary from patient to patient, but for full upper dentures, 4 implants are usually sufficient if we are talking about a removable full denture supported by implants, which involves placing 4 implants in the upper jaw, which is usually essential to keep removable restorations stable.

If the patient prefers an anchored denture on fully fixed implants, 6 implants are the permanent solution.

When can I not have an implant?

With the continuous development of the science of implantology, it is now very rare that it is not possible to use this tooth replacement technique.

A general reason for exclusion is if the patient suffers from severe periodontal disease. In this case, the gum problem must be treated first and proper oral hygiene ensured.

Another exclusion factor may be a jaw bone that is too weak. Nowadays, there is a solution to this problem with bone grafting, which in most cases does not prevent implantation, but it can extend the duration of treatment considerably.

Nemcsak esztétikailag, hanem a funkcionalitás tekintetében is nagy fejtörést tudnak okozni a hiányzó fogak.
