\nTooth-coloured filling materials of quality are sensitive to moisture; their structure is affected by moisture, saliva, and exhaled vapour. Rubber dam isolation helps to ensure that prepared fillings are not only highly aesthetic but also long-lasting and less prone to secondary decay.<\/p>\n

When replacing an old filling, the dental dam's saliva ejector serves a dual purpose: it prevents amalgam debris from entering the body, meaning amalgam containing toxic mercury can be completely and safely removed from the tooth. It also protects the cavity from bacteria and secondary decay.<\/p>\n
Does using a dental dam hurt?
\nThe placement of a dental dam is done under anaesthesia and involves a feeling of pressure. The clamp that secures the rubber sheet can leave a slight feeling of pressure after the anaesthesia wears off, but this will not cause pain even in cases of very tight interdental spaces.<\/p>\n
