In this chapter, I would like to share my experiences with you about my initial impressions of Invisalign braces in the first few weeks of treatment, as well as the experiences I gained with them in my daily life.

In case you missed my previous articles, I'm still Zsófia Németh, an ordinary girl from the capital who wanted to remove the stigma of crooked and missing teeth for good.

In the previous part, I finished my story with fitting the first Invisalign aligner, and I promised to tell you about my experience during the treatment. So, let's look at the most beautiful moments of my 18-month journey!

It doesn’t hurt, it doesn’t hurt, it doesn’t hurt… and it truly doesn’t!
You can read a lot of opinions about Invisalign online, and indeed, I came across some horror stories suggesting the first few days can be painful. Let's put the matter to rest: they weren't!

I clearly remember the first time I left the NaturaDent office and walked home with fresh braces on my teeth, thinking to myself, „Zsófi, this isn't so bad!”

Did I feel pain? No, not once. What I did feel was the pressure of the rails on my teeth, especially the first ones. Since that was where I had the biggest problem - I had big gaps - I thought it was normal.

Then on the second day the feeling of pressure began to ease, and on the morning of the third day I found myself having completely got used to it, as if I were wearing an extremely comfortable mouthguard on my teeth.

Yes, the speech took some getting used to. At first, I was always afraid that the splint would jump off my teeth if I opened my mouth - it would have been funny in front of my boss, but it didn't happen - and slowly I got used to it, and within the first week the speech impediments were gone.

The latter did not return later, and after the first aligner change, I only experienced a feeling of pressure, but the pressure at work was greater than what Invisalign exerted, so no deception, no illusion, it was truly gentle with me.

Right, how do I put this back now?
I won't deny it, I had trouble putting the rails back in at first. The unbuckling was easy enough for some reason, but I remember after my first meal and brushing my teeth, I just stood in front of the mirror and after a few failed attempts, I thought I'd have to go back to the dentist's office.

Although everything went smoothly in the dentist's chair, it wasn't quite as easy at home in my flat. However, I didn't give up, I struggled like poor Piglet against the wind, and I got the hang of it.

The tactic that worked for me was to first hook the rails into my back teeth with my two thumbs – or my two index fingers underneath – then with a little pressure the other teeth slid in nicely, followed by a slight squeeze and everything went on its way.

No slipping, no half swallowed braces, the design is so precise that you simply can't put it on wrong.

„Zsófi, you're so different today!”
Then came the first day I went to work with braces. Even though I could not see with my mouth closed or open, I was still very nervous. Would they notice? What would they say? Would I get fired?

Alright, the latter didn't cross my mind, of course, but butterflies still fluttered in my stomach. The first colleague didn't notice anything. Neither did the second. Then the third didn't either. Okay Zsófi – I thought to myself – you're on track now. You know, on track!

Then my boss arrived, and after the greetings, he immediately indicated that I was different today. „Didn't you sleep well, or is your hairstyle different?” he asked. I couldn't hold it in any longer (not even my laughter), and I revealed that I had braces.

Everyone had a good laugh, because they thought I'd brought out my award-winning humour again, but then I proved it. Of course, everyone was immediately amazed, they were curious, they asked questions, and one of my colleagues is even planning an Invisalign treatment since then, so beware: it's contagious!

The first invisibility test thus ended successfully, but the biggest trial still remained: meeting my parents!

I could hide it better than my first all-nighter!
As much as I love writing, I dislike acting just as much. I can't do it at all. I'll never forget the first time I got home at dawn and it wasn't advisable to light a match near my breath… The next day, it took my mother about 5 minutes to get everything out of me.

However, Invisalign was a great companion for me in acting. I went for Sunday lunch, so I had to reveal it, but I played my part until the last moment. We kept talking, laughing with my mother, then Dad joined us, but neither of them noticed anything.

There was also great surprise, and then laughter, when I let out that now I'm taking my dentures out for lunch! This of course delayed the meal by 20 minutes - and sorry, I was 20 minutes off the rails that day - but I had to explain everything to them from start to finish.

As middle-aged people, they were amazed at how far science has come, meaning you no longer have to shove all sorts of wires into your mouth for orthodontics.

So it turns out that my second test went well: even my own parents didn't realise I was in treatment. I mean orthodontic treatment, to avoid any misunderstandings!

Application? What application?
One other important thing I left out above in relation to the treatment is the app. What does that grow on? Not on a tree, on our phone, because installing the My Invisalign phone companion app was highly recommended to me when I started treatment.

I can only recommend it to everyone, as I am incredibly forgetful, and it always reminded me, for example, when it was time for new braces, and I even enthusiastically uploaded my silly smiling pictures to it.

Why did I consider this important to highlight? Simply because the application's gallery first shocked me:

Wow, it really works!
Everyone knows their own face and teeth well. The features, the flaws are vividly etched into everyone, and to be completely honest now: I haven't really bothered to measure the gaps between my teeth with calipers or a ruler every day.

I thought that 18 months of treatment was long enough to take a closer look at it at about the halfway point.

Then, when I saw my smile photo uploaded after the first month, I had to admit that Invisalign really works! I immediately took off the splint and ran to the mirror to make sure I wasn't the victim of some optical illusion.

I didn't need a measuring instrument either, because as soon as I lifted my upper lip, it became visible to me: my teeth were starting to straighten, and the gap between the two front ones was decreasing. Not drastically, but noticeably!

This was the point where I was still taking wearing braces and the entire treatment more seriously, as after many, many years I was finally truly in the final stretch, with a chance to smile without inhibition.

Of course, there was still a long road ahead of me, but I'll tell you in the final part of my article series how the treatment concluded. Join me then too!

Hogy miről is van itt szó?
