Before tooth extraction

There are a few things you should do before you have your teeth pulled. This will help to avoid future inconveniences and complications, and the extraction itself will be much easier and quicker.

Required before tooth extraction:

  • good thorough brushing and flossing
  • plaque removal, depuration and polishing by a dental hygienist

On this Dental hygiene consultations And the aim of the treatments is to achieve the best possible bacteria-free oral flora, so that even by chance, no bacteria enter the small wound created after tooth extraction.

In addition to brushing, we recommend rinsing with mouthwash in the days before tooth extraction and cutting down on harmful habits such as smoking, alcohol and coffee.

After tooth extraction

Even after a tooth extraction, there are a few areas to pay attention to. Our specialist oral surgeon performing the procedure will do everything they can to ensure the healing period following extraction is quick and problem-free, but you can also do a lot to help this.

Things to look out for after a tooth extraction:

  • flushing and sucking on the wound is strictly forbidden and spitting is not allowed
  • do not drink milk or dairy products for 2-3 days
  • Let's avoid and moderate our bad habits, such as smoking, excessive sugar consumption, and alcohol consumption.
  • The affected area can be gently cooled; this will reduce any minor post-operative discomfort.
  • in 99% cases, it is not necessary, but in justified cases, following the advice of our oral surgeon, we can also give painkillers

If you do not follow the prescribed recommendations to help you heal, you may find that after the initial improvement, the wound left after the tooth extraction may start to hurt more. If the symptoms get worse, make sure you go back to your dentist!

The tooth extraction process

  • thoroughly clean the area around the tooth to be removed to avoid infection
  • remove the tooth with deft and quick movements
  • In place of the bleeding, a blood clot, essentially a plug of blood, forms
  • this natural plug seals the wound and prevents bacteria from settling on the bone surface and possibly causing infection
  • A disinfectant tablet and a small sponge are placed at the bottom of the socket left after tooth extraction, which stabilises this blood clot.
  • For the best closure and most protected healing, we will close the wound with a stitch, which will prevent blood clots from falling out.
  • 1 week after the tooth extraction, a suture removal and check-up will take place in the office
  • if necessary, planning the replacement of the lost tooth is the next step

The tooth extraction in our office is gentle, the whole process is done under anaesthesia.

Replacing a lost tooth

If your tooth extraction was necessitated by a dental issue or gum disease, rather than a lack of space, you should also consider replacing the lost tooth. The sooner the tooth replacement is done, the shorter the time after the extraction, the faster the new tooth will assume the role, position, and healthy functions of the original tooth. Otherwise, a persistent gap in your teeth can have serious negative and destructive effects.

A tooth is part of the body, an important part of the dentition, and its loss can cause serious problems both short-term and long-term. It is much easier and less problematic to replace a missing tooth immediately after extraction than later.
